Ruth Meinzen-Dick

Ruth Meinzen-Dick is a Senior Research Fellow in the Natural Resources and Resilience Unit. She has extensive transdisciplinary research experience in using qualitative and quantitative research methods. Her work focuses on two broad (and sometimes interrelated) areas: how institutions affect how people manage natural resources, and the role of gender in development processes.

When the corporates come marching into farms (NewsClick)

NewsClick published an article that stated farmers suspect that with no MSP protection, something might happen once the big players enter the farm sector. One expert stated that “These laws have failed the farmers there. So why are we bringing them here?” The entire script apparently is designed to drastically cut the number of people engaged in agriculture and leave the field open to big farmers and corporates. The ‘move up or move out’ policy, according to one expert, which IFPRI recommended for our farm sector is what is being implemented.
